ON SET: MANCAVE

Jonas Slørdal Røvik

It's the final stretch of the short film "Mancave." We visit the set on the last day of filming.

Mancave is about a woman who is drawn into a labyrinth of repressed fantasies and secrets when she discovers that her husband has a hidden room in the family garage.

The director is Fredrik S. Hana, who was pitched the idea by screenwriter Jamie Turville. Producers are Einar Loftesnes and Julia Joner. Production company is Chezville. Fredrik and Jamie have worked on the idea in several rounds since 2016, and with support from NFI, Filmkraft, Vestnorsk Filmsenter and Fond for Lyd og Bilde, it could now finally be realized in 2024.

Lina Helvik from Chezville talks about extensive filming days with different locations. There have been filming days in the studio, as well as filming with children and extras.

– Thanks to the invaluable efforts of everyone involved, the recording has been completed.

Fredrik adds that there has been a good atmosphere among new and old colleagues and friends.

– Varied, intense and very fun days that I will miss, he says.

Several challenges arose along the way, but much was solved with good cooperation and not least good planning and preparation. Lina praises the preparation, and the fantastic effort from the staff and cast.

– Despite the long days and a lot of work, it seems like it has been a very good collaboration. The production included two production assistants who were recent graduates from UiS, who have been very good to have in addition to an incredible core staff, says Lina.

When asked what the goal of the film is after it is finished being produced, director Fredrik answers briefly and concisely.

– To get it out into the world.

Lina adds:

– Initially, we are aiming for the festival market, we hope that the film will reach a wide audience, but time will tell.
