Minimalen Short Film Festival is an annual, independent film event covering new productions from around the world as well as focus programs and retrospectives. Minimalen is based in Trondheim and was established in 1988.
Over six days in January, Minimalen screens around 250 short films, roughly divided into two sections: New Norwegian, Nordic and international films in seven competitions, and retrospectives and special programs. The Nordic section offers a unique way to get updated on the state of short film in this entire northern corner of Europe. Of the Norwegian competitions, the One Minute Film competition is the best known and the one that has been with us the longest. This extreme screening time limit places high demands on the filmmaker's financial discipline, making it a perfect training format for young filmmakers.

The signature pitch
For the eighth time, the national Signature Pitch will be held during the Short Film Convention in Trondheim, 22-23 January 2025. The prize will be increased in 2025. It is with great pleasure that we have, next year, the Internašunála Sámi Filbmainstituhtta, ISFI with us. This means that there will be eight short film projects that will be selected from all over the country and compete for a prize of 80,000 kroner, given by the country's regional film centers and ISFI.
Students cannot apply.
The signature pitch is aimed at directors, either alone or in collaboration with a screenwriter/producer.
The project must be under development, but may not have received funding from film centers or film institutes.
The pitch must be in English and visual material or live images must be used.
The project will be a fiction short film of up to 10 minutes.
Each project has a total of 10 minutes (7 minutes pitch + 3 minutes questions). The jury will give weight to the filmmakers' previous work.
The jury for 2025 is not yet ready, but previous juries have included festival programmers from the Tribeca Film Festival and Sundance, award-winning directors and others who may be of great importance to the participants' future careers.
The application must contain
- Project description of max. 600 words
- Your motivation for the project and pitch in a maximum of 300 words
